The look of a piece of jewellery starts with the material. A piece of jewellery may look beautiful at first, but if the quality starts to decline over time, you’re less likely to wear it regularly. That’s why, at My Jewellery, we choose materials that not only look beautiful, but are also comfortable to wear, affordable and made to last. The most common material used in our jewellery is premium stainless steel, as it’s affordable and designed for daily wear. You’ll also find jewellery made from 925 silver, resin, freshwater pearls, faux pearls, glass, stone and acrylic. On this page, we’ll explain each material, what to expect from it and how to best care for your jewellery. This makes it easier to choose what suits your style and routine best.

Yes, our premium stainless steel jewellery is 100% waterproof. This means that they won’t tarnish from daily contact with water such as washing your hands, showering or rain. Jewellery with materials such as freshwater pearls, glass beads, or resin is more sensitive to water, soap and beauty products. Want to keep these pieces looking their best for as long as possible? Then we recommend taking them off for a little while. Are you going for a swim in the sea or a swimming pool while wearing your stainless steel jewellery? That is absolutely possible, but afterwards we recommend rinsing it with clean water, patting it dry and storing it separately. This way, your favourites will keep shining for longer.

Yes, that’s possible, but salt water or chlorine might affect the shine of your jewellery. This can make your stainless steel jewellery appear slightly duller over time. Luckily, this can be fixed easily by cleaning your jewellery and gently drying it with a soft cloth.

Our silver-coloured stainless steel jewellery is made entirely from stainless steel. Stainless steel is 100% waterproof, scratch-resistant and made for daily wear. It’s also called ‘’surgical steel’’ and is a good choice for people with sensitive skin. Silver-plated jewellery, on the other hand, is not made entirely of silver, but consists of a basic metal with a thin silver coating. This silver layer can wear away over time, making the underlying layer visible. This underlying layer may darken over time or leave green marks on the skin. For this reason, we choose to offer only stainless steel jewellery and do not include silver-plated jewellery in our collection.

Premium stainless steel offers many advantages. It’s affordable for the quality you receive and gives your jewellery a beautiful, luxurious look. Apart from that, we test our jewellery for nickel and use nickel-free materials, which makes stainless steel a good choice for people with sensitive skin. You can also wear your stainless steel jewellery while showering, exercising and cleaning. Are you going for a swim in the sea or in a swimming pool? That’s possible, but to keep your favourites shining for as long as possible, we recommend reducing contact with salt water and chlorine and rinsing your jewellery and patting it dry afterwards. Lastly, stainless steel is recyclable, strong and scratch-resistant. With the right care, your jewellery will stay with you for a lifetime.

We do not recommend bringing jewellery with freshwater pearls into contact with water. Showering and swimming are therefore not recommended. Water, soap and cleaning products may make your pearls appear dull over time, and the jewellery piece itself may wear out more quickly. Therefore, we recommend storing your pearl jewellery safely before showering or swimming. Also, perfume and hairspray may affect the pearls, so preferably put on your pearl jewellery after getting ready for the day.

The material is made for daily wear: our premium stainless steel jewellery is 100% waterproof, stays beautiful and is scratch-resistant. Stainless steel is also recyclable.
