4 Reasons why you should build a Capsule Wardrobe

  • #1 Benefit of a capsule wardrobe: Less decision fatigue

Most women will recognise the struggle: you’re standing in front of your wardrobe that’s filled to the brim with clothing items, but you still claim “I don’t have anything to wear”, then you proceed to pull out all of the cute & super-trend items you bought on a whim, only to end up going out in your tried and tested staples that look & feel the best. Trust us, most women will experience this! Unless, that woman has built herself a capsule wardrobe! (.....see what we did there!) Having a curated selection of items that can be styled any which way, removes so much of the early-morning decision making stress, and leaves your head and mind feeling so much clearer.

  • #2 Benefit of a capsule wardrobe: More money, More time, More energy

The beauty of a capsule wardrobe is that your items are super versatile and interchangeable, which means you won’t have to keep shopping just to find an item that’ll go with that one crazy on-trend print you recently purchased. The idea behind a capsule wardrobe is that you’ll return to and re-wear your pieces, which saves money & time, and leaves you with more energy for other passions.

  • #3 Benefit of a capsule wardrobe: A defined style

Most women spend most of their teen and adult years looking for a defined style that truly represents who they are. However, with seasonal and trend-heavy collection drops happening at least every season, it’s actually very tricky to determine a defined style that doesn’t rely on trending items. That’s where a capsule wardrobe comes in.

  • #4 Benefit of a capsule wardrobe: Sustainable

Safe to say, most of us have heard of the term sustainability, and have been wanting to live a more sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle. Sometimes though, when the realities of life pop up it can be quite difficult to achieve or maintain. A capsule wardrobe is a good place to start if you’re looking to live a slightly greener lifestyle and want a more sustainable approach to your closet & fashion. Given that your capsule wardrobe will be made up of a select number of items, classic staples that are versatile and interchangeable, that are meant to be kept and re-worn, you’ll be contributing far less to the fast fashion industry that is so detrimental to our planet.

How to build a Capsule Collection

Hopefully we’ve managed to convince you of the perks of a capsule wardrobe! Now, it’s all about which clothing items you need in your capsule collection for the Winter season. The first challenge we want to pose to you is to pare your closet down to 37 items. This number includes your outerwear like, coats & jackets, your clothing like, tops, bottoms & dresses, and your footwear like, shoes & boots. We can imagine cutting your wardrobe down to 37 items sounds super scary & intense! But trust us, life will be so much easier in the long run, and if you’re honest with yourself (and your clothes), you’ll probably notice that you only really wear around 37 items all the time anyway. So, let’s get into the items that you simply must include in your capsule wardrobe!

Which items need to be included in your Capsule Wardrobe

Outerwear, Coats & Jackets that you need!

Any great Winter outfit starts with a great coat! A long trench style coat is super timeless and always looks on-trend, while a teddy coat is the perfect timeless and versatile trend piece to include in your capsule wardrobe. Next step: blazers! Every capsule wardrobe needs a few great blazers. Go for a mixture of oversized and well-tailored blazers and gilets, in timeless neutrals such as black, beige and cream, and mixed fabrics like leather, linen and cotton.

Bottoms & dresses to include in your Capsule Wardrobe

Every woman needs a few great little black dresses! The LBD is basically the most versatile item in any girl’s closet, dress it up for a night-out or dress it down for the office or a day of shopping, whichever way you choose to wear it, you definitely need a few in your wardrobe! The next item you’ll need are some oversized white shirts (dresses), these pieces are great for layering, and that’s one of the main ways that you can keep renewing your looks with your capsule collection. Once you’ve picked your dresses, it’s time to move on to tops & pants. When it comes to building a capsule wardrobe neutrals and basics are the way to go, and you can add some prints or a little pop of colour with a select number of items. So, a girl always needs some flattering & comfy jeans (this doesn’t have to be an on-trend cut, the main thing here is to choose a pair that suits your shape), a nicely tailored pair of black pants, some leather trousers or leggings, and a skirt or pair of shorts.

Tops that must be included in your Capsule Collection

As for tops, start with the basics. Neutral bodysuits are the ideal building blocks for layering your outfits. Next, some figure hugging turtlenecks and loose-fit sweaters, these are great for any kind of occasion and need only minimal styling(!) If you’re looking to add a little bit of spice to your neutral wardrobe, go for tops with some extra detailing, such as cut-outs or ruffles. Finally, every girl needs some good, basic t-shirts! These act as the foundation for so many styles and looks, so a good plain white tee, and black t-shirt, MUST be included in your capsule wardrobe.

Which boots and shoes to add to your Capsule Wardrobe

When it comes to boots & shoes, you’re looking for versatility and comfort. So, you really can’t go wrong with a pair of chunky ankle boots. These have been around for ages, and it’s not looking like they’ll be going anywhere soon. Next up: sneakers. Sneakers are every girl’s go-to when they’re looking to add a casual edge to an outfit. Plus, sneakers are super versatile! Finally, a heeled ankle or over-the-knee boot and some black heeled sandals. Because, girl, you simply can’t build a capsule wardrobe without a pair of heels!
