By Victoria Cowan, 15 November 2021

We’re back with another meet-the-team! This time we’d like to introduce you to our store managers. Our store managers work at our boutiques and are always ready to welcome you with a smile and the best advice, so you’ll leave our boutiques happy and with all of your favourite items. But, not just that! Because being a store manager includes so many more tasks. Want to know more about their role as store managers? Read on quick!

Store Manager Maaike de Boer
Boutique: Eindhoven

How long have you been working at My Jewellery?
I’ve been working at My Jewellery since March 2019, and I’ve very happily been a store manager for almost a year.

Can you tell us a little something about your daily tasks?
The position of store manager has seen quite a lot of changes and expansion in the past year, so now it includes quite a lot of administrative tasks. Examples of this are: scheduling, interviewing, hour registration, and of course keeping track of the low-sellers and bestsellers, sales and our KPIs. Besides that I also do a lot on the shop floor, helping customers and stacking shelves, and I focus a lot on the appearance of the shop and help our Visual Merchandiser wherever I’m needed. In short, it’s a really diverse job with lots of variety, which makes it really fun and challenging!.

What do you love most about your job?
There’s so many things I love about working at My Jewellery, but my favourite thing has to be the colleagues! These girls make every day a party. I’m also a really big fan of our products, especially the jewellery, so I’d say a part of my monthly wage goes straight back to the boss haha.

Tell us about an unforgettable work moment!
There’s so many! Days like Black Friday and Glamour weekend, when all our girls get to the shop early and full of enthusiasm, ready to make it into a great day together. But I also love our sweet customers who are so grateful for some friendly help & we can’t forget the fun (virtual) Christmas drinks of the past!

Store manager Marleen Stomphorst
Boutique: Groningen

How long have you been working at My Jewellery?
I’ve been here since the opening of the boutique, which is almost two years ago!

Can you tell us a little something about your daily tasks?
My tasks are store managers are very varied. Which is part of the appeal of the job! My daily tasks include amongst other things: scheduling, counting the register, determining targets, sticking to KPIs, hour registration, interviews/feedback rounds, coaching and leading/managing the team!

What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job is making our customers happy. I want them to smile while they’re shopping with us and have them leave the boutique happier than when they came in! Besides that, we have a great team of sales women that work really well together which means there’s a really good atmosphere on the shop floor.

Tell us about an unforgettable work moment!
Definitely opening weekend! We still talk about that amongst our team haha. It was a fun, busy, hectic, enjoyable but above all unforgettable weekend.

Store manager Caitlin van Duijn
Boutiques: Haarlem + Leiden

How long have you been working at My Jewellery?
It’ll be 3 years in August. I initially started as the store manager at our boutique in Haarlem, and since May I’ve also been in charge of the Leiden boutique (together with Megan from our Amsterdam store).

Can you tell us a little something about your daily tasks?
At the moment it’s an awful lot! We’re very busy at our new boutique in Leiden, which opened on 1st May this year. So it’s all about getting it running properly and training the girls! There’s also an assistant store manager and first sales-person, whom we’ll be training to become the next store manager and assistant manager! Every day is different which is what I love about this job! We start every morning by cleaning the boutique. After that we open our doors and continue filling up the jewellery stands. We usually do this for about an hour in the mornings until the shop starts to fill up with customers and our main focus becomes selling. We receive new stock 2 or 3 x a week which includes new collections and replenishments of existing products. We always make sure to display our new products in the shop as quickly as possible, and then I work with our Visual Merchandiser to determine the best way to style the items. We work according to a VM checklist to make sure every boutique looks the same. We usually wait to replenish until the evening so all of our attention can go to the customers during the day. We also make sure to keep the boutique clean and tidy throughout the day. At the end of the day we check all the clothing racks and fill the racks with missing sizes. I do the admin on a weekly basis, this includes turnover stock checks, scheduling and hour administration. I also often hold feedback chats with the girls from the team. If I'm looking for new girls, I’ll also take interviews. I tend to hold interviews and feedback rounds together with my assistant manager. I also think it’s really important to make newsletters for the girls in the team so they’re always up-to-date with any changes or developments. Finally, we often have team meetings to discuss various business points but also to come together as a team.

What do you love most about your job?
At the moment it’s the chance to run 2 boutiques. To guide and teach the girls I work with. I’ve been able to leave the Haarlem boutique in the capable hands of my assistant Elise, because we’re so in sync with each other, so I know everything is running smoothly there. Which means I’ve been able to focus more on team Leiden. I also think My Jewellery is a great company to work for. We’re not seen as a number, but as a person. That doesn’t happen often in retail! If you were to check my wardrobe you’d see it’s full of My Jewellery pieces, and more is added every month, so you can definitely say I’m a fan of the brand, haha!

Tell us about an unforgettable work moment!
The opening of the boutique in Haarlem! That was three years ago now, when everything still felt normal! But days like Glamour day, Black Friday, and basically the whole month of December are always really fun days. So busy and bustling in towns and in the boutique!

Store manager Dewy Reijers
Boutique: Recently returned to Nijmegen to run both boutiques.

How long have you been working at My Jewellery?
More than 2 years. I started when the first boutique opened in Nijmegen.

Can you tell us a little something about your daily tasks?
A store manager has lots of different tasks to deal with. We start the day with a daily debrief. That’s when we discuss our zone divisions, targets and possible eventualities for that day. After that we all go to our specific zone and get ready to receive our customers. Receiving customers is definitely a little different than it used to be ‘before’. Currently, we’re only allowed a maximum number of customers at in time in the boutique. Despite it being really disappointing that we’re only allowed limited customers, we’re really happy that we’re allowed to actually welcome them into the shop again for personal help and advice. You can tell our customers are really about that too! Besides advising out customers, I also spend a lot of time guiding the team and doing other tasks. I help the team where needed, make the schedules, lead feedback sessions and last but not least: I try to create a positive work environment every day.

What do you love most about your job?
My team! I go to work happy every day because I know I’ll see my lovely colleagues again. I also really love helping customers who’re looking for a gift and have no idea what to get, to find the perfect gift and have them leave the shop with a smile!

Tell us about an unforgettable work moment!
There have been so many moments I could write a book about them! There’ve been lots of moments with colleagues and customers that I’ll never forget. The opening of our first Nijmegen boutique was amazing! That was my first day at My Jewellery and I’ve never experienced anything like that before. The queue went on for 10s of meters out of the boutique. After 1.5 years I moved to the Den Bosch boutique because they gave me the opportunity to grow into the position of store manager. The team there really welcomed me with open arms. So I had a great time there, it was short but very sweet!
